Mott's Expands Line of Apple Snacks and Drinks Made for an Adult Taste
Survey Sheds Light on Women's Nutrition Needs
Rye Brook, NY – June 22, 2006
As busy women look for ways to eat healthy without sacrificing great taste or nutrition, Mott's, a leading Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB) brand, expands its current lineup of products for nutrition-conscious women.
Fitting in good nutrition is tough. The calorie creep is on from morning to night. Work, home, travel...they all chip away at the day leaving little time to think about how to eat right. According to a recent consumer survey commissioned by Mott's, 43 percent of women admit to not taking care of themselves nutritionally due to hectic schedules and family needs. The good news is that once women learn about healthy alternatives that meet their lifestyle needs, they are more inclined to consider them. In fact, six out of ten women said that they would likely reach for apple sauce and apple juice, once they learned that consuming both can help them meet the daily recommended amount of fruit servings.
Nutrition Tips for Women
"Good nutrition can easily fit into a busy lifestyle," said Mott's Nutrition Consultant, Liz Weiss, MS, RD. "You can rush through the grocery or convenience store grabbing high-calorie, high-sugar products or you can choose from the growing selection of nutritious options like Mott's Plus Light Apple Juice Beverage and Mott's Healthy Harvest Apple Sauce. Mott's is now offering great choices for women looking for key nutrients while watching calories and sugar."
The USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends up to 6 ½ cups or 13 servings a day of fruit and vegetables. According to Weiss, both a 4-ounce glass of 100% apple juice and a 4-ounce cup of apple sauce equal ½ cup of fruit and count toward daily fruit serving goals. "Women need to take control of their diets. Pour yourself a glass of apple juice for an afternoon energy boost. Make over your snack drawer at work, replacing candy and crackers with almonds and apple sauce cups. Enlist a friend at work to change her eating habits as well. You'll find that small changes over time start to add up and make you feel better quickly."
Mott's Healthy Lineup
Two new Mott's Plus Light juices — Apple Cranberry and Apple Blueberry — as well as Healthy Harvest Blueberry Delight apple sauce — combine the goodness of apples with healthy berries for an everyday solution to get more fruit into the diet. The new entries complement the popular Mott's Plus apple juice line and Mott's Healthy Harvest unsweetened apple sauce blends.
"Apple sauce and apple juice aren't just for kids anymore. They're nutritious, everyday options for the whole family," said Ilene Bergenfeld, Mott's. "We've combined the nutrition power of apples with berry superfruits giving women what they're looking for — products meeting their nutrition needs."
Mott's Plus Light has half the calories and sugar of regular 100% apple juice and is fortified with a full day's supply of Vitamin C to support a healthy immune system. It also has 20% Vitamin D and 10% calcium to help maintain strong bones. Naturally fat free and cholesterol free, Mott's Plus Light contains 50% juice and is sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener.
A 3.9-ounce cup of Mott's Healthy Harvest Blueberry Delight has half the calories of regular apple sauce, no added sweeteners, is an excellent source of antioxidant Vitamin C and is naturally fat free and cholesterol free. Other flavors in the Mott's Healthy Harvest line include Granny Smith, Summer Strawberry, Country Berry, and Peach Medley.
Both products are available nationwide in retail stores. The suggested retail price for a 64 oz. Bottle of Mott's Plus Light Apple Cranberry or Mott's Plus Light Apple Blueberry Juice Beverage is $2.79. The suggested retail price for a six-pack of Mott's Healthy Harvest Blueberry Delight apple sauce is $2.39.
